A mutual fund is an investment vehicle that collects money from many investors and invests it in a diversified portfolio of securities such as equities, bonds, government securities, money-market instruments, or other permitted assets. The fund is managed by a professional Asset Management Company (AMC) according to the scheme’s investment objective. Investors receive units representing their proportionate ownership in the fund. The value of each unit is represented by the Net Asset Value (NAV). In India, mutual funds are regulated by SEBI, while AMFI promotes industry standards and investor awareness. Mutual funds provide diversification, professional management, liquidity, transparency, and regulated investment opportunities.
